Indian buyers have already been spoiled with multiple choices in the midsize SUV segment. And there is no stopping as five new models are set to hit roads in 2025- 2026. Maruti is preparing a new SUV, which is likely to be called the Escudo, while Tata and Renault are gearing up to revive their iconic Sierra and Duster brands, respectively. The new-gen Kia Seltos and Nissan Kait are also worth waiting for. Here’s a quick look at the top 5 upcoming midsize SUVs to keep an eye on.

Maruti Shield

Maruti Suzuki is planning to introduce an affordable alternative to the Grand Vitara, to challenge the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. Despite being positioned below the Grand Vitara, the new Maruti 5-seater SUV will be longer and might offer a bigger boot space. This new model is likely to be called Maruti Escudo. It will share the 140bhp, 1.5L petrol and 116bhp, 1.5L strong hybrid powertrains with the Grand Vitara.

Tata Sierra

Top 5 Upcoming Midsize SUVs In 2025-26 – Petrol & Diesel

The Tata Sierra nameplate will return in an all-new avatar during 2025 Diwali season. The SUV will be offered with petrol, diesel and electric powertrain options. The petrol version might come with a 165bhp, 1.5L turbo engine, while the diesel model is likely to feature a 170bhp, 2.0L turbo motor. The electric Sierra is expected to share powertrains with the newly-launched Tata Harrier EV.

New Renault Duster

The iconic Renault Duster is set to return with an all-new design, interior and engines in early 2026. Official specifications of the SUV are yet to be revealed. However, it’s expected to be powered by a 1.0L naturally aspirated and 1.3L turbo petrol engines. The Duster hybrid launch is also on the cards. The strong hybrid version is reported to arrive within 12 months of the petrol model launch.

New-Gen Kia Seltos

The second-generation Kia Seltos will witness a market launch in early 2026. The SUV is expected to come with significantly improved design and upmarket interior. Interestingly, it will be the first Kia in India to feature a strong hybrid powertrain. The existing 1.5L MPi petrol, 1.5L petrol and 1.5L diesel engines will also be carried over to the next-gen Seltos.

Nissan kait

Next on the list of upcoming midsize SUVs is the Nissan kaitwhich will essentially be a re-badged version of the new Duster. The new Nissan SUV will feature the brand’s signature design language and look completely different from the Duster. However, both SUVs will share the powertrains and features. As per media reports, the new Nissan midsize SUV will offer more features than its donor model.
