Hyderabad: A meeting on student safety during school transportation was organised by the Hyderabad Police at Ravindra Bharathi on Thursday. The meeting was attended by school managements, auto-rickshaw driver unions, Road Transport Authority officials, traffic police personnel, and the District Revenue Department.
Hyderabad Police Commissioner CV Anand, who chaired the meeting, said the safety of students during their commute to and from school is of utmost importance and that the city police are taking all necessary steps to ensure the safety of every student.
The Police Commissioner asked school managements to implement basic protocols, including checking the fitness of school buses, conducting breathalyser tests for drivers and attendants, staggering school timings to reduce traffic congestion, and deploying an adequate number of traffic volunteers and security personnel. He also urged auto drivers to follow safety rules and avoid overcrowding their vehicles, as it endangers students’ lives.
The traffic police will conduct regular checks for traffic violations, particularly those that pose a risk to students’ safety. Anand added that the traffic police would also conduct awareness programmes on road safety and security across educational institutions.
