Govt extends 5-day work week for sectt staff by one more year

Vijayawada: The state govt has extended the five-day work week for employees of AP secretariat, HoDs, and other state-level offices by another year. With the existing five-day work schedule scheduled to end in June, the govt decided to provide relief to employees for another year. All state-level offices, including commissionerates, directorates, corporations, and offices in the state secretariat, will function from Monday to Friday. The facility was originally granted when the capital city was shifted from Hyderabad to Amaravati in 2015. As majority of employees were settled in the erstwhile capital city of Hyderabad, the state govt offered a five-day work week to enable them to shuttle between the old and new capital cities. The govt has been extending the facility year after year, even a decade after the bifurcation of the state and relocation of almost all offices to Amaravati. In fact, the common capital facility also ended on June 2. The state govt also offered group housing at concessional rates for employees while moving the capital city from Hyderabad to Amaravati.Chief secretary K Vijayanand said all state-level offices and state secretariat would function from 10 am to 5.30 pm for five days a week for another year. He asked the secretaries and HoDs to take necessary action to implement the decision. All govt offices at the district, mandal, and village levels will remain open for six days a week.
