Working president of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) K.T. Rama Rao has condemned the assault on tribal women of Irevandi village of Burgampahad mandal in Bhadradri-Kothagudem district, allegedly by the officials of the Forest department. He termed the incident as ‘inhuman and shocking’.

In a statement on Saturday, Mr. Rao termed the behaviour of the officials as brutal and merciless. “It is not governance, it is barbarism,” he said, calling the incident a direct assault on the dignity of women and the soul of democracy.

The BRS leader questioned the moral compass of the Congress government seeking to know in which democracy do uniformed officers attack unarmed women for protecting their land and identity. He demanded an apology from Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, who, he said, give lengthy lectures on tribal and downtrodden sections on any given opportunity.

Mr. Rama Rao sought to know whether vacating the tribal communities from the lands under their cultivation for the last 30 years was the democratic spirit professed by the Congress leadership. The assault on helpless women who were pleading against snatching the morsel from their mouth was an indication of the moral degradation of the Congress, he alleged.

Demanding immediate suspension of the officers involved in the assault on tribal women, he also wanted the Chief Minister to tender a public apology. He assured that BRS would stand shoulder-to-shoulder with tribal communities fighting for their rights.
