KATHMANDU, June 22: Nepal Police has detained three Indian nationals, including a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) from Hyderabad, for entering the country without official permission and attempting to apprehend a Nepali citizen suspected in a theft case in India.

According to a high-level source at Nepal Police, the trio was arrested in Kathmandu last Friday while allegedly attempting to capture a Nepali man accused of involvement in a theft worth around 30 million Indian rupees in Hyderabad. The suspects had reportedly entered Nepal in a covert manner, posing as civilians, to carry out their operation.

Their activities were deemed suspicious by Nepal Police, leading to their detention in Swayambhu. The individuals were later handed over to the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu.

This is not the first incident of its kind. A similar case occurred in the Nepali month of Falgun when a team from Punjab Police was arrested in Thamel for conducting operations without prior authorization. That incident led to disciplinary action against DSP Nishant Srivastav from Lamjung.

The latest case has raised diplomatic concerns, as foreign law enforcement operating within Nepal without prior approval violates established international and bilateral protocols. Security experts have pointed out that such actions undermine sovereign coordination and highlight a lack of proper security cooperation between neighboring nations.
