Eluru: Four persons were killed and 21 injured when a private bus traveling from Hyderabad to Kakinada overturned after colliding with a lorry near the Chidimella flyover under Eluru rural police station limits.
Three passengers died instantly at the scene, while the bus driver, Madhu, a native of Srikakulam, succumbed to his injuries during treatment. The injured were rushed to GGH, Eluru, where the district collector, Vetriselvi, visited and instructed doctors to ensure the best possible care for the victims.
According to Eluru DSP Sravan Kumar, the stationary lorry, parked due to a flat tire, was mistaken by the bus driver as moving ahead. The collision proved fatal for Bondu Bheemeswara Rao (43) from Gurrala Cheruvu village in Bhimadolu mandal, Mattaparthi Bhavani (24) from Katravulapalli in Kakinada district, and Juthiga Bhavani from Vanjaram village in Konaseema district, all of whom died on the spot.
Of the 40 passengers on board, nine women and four men sustained serious injuries, while eight others suffered minor wounds. The police and highway rescue teams swiftly removed the overturned bus from the road, clearing the accident site.
