Banglore to Galibore: A short escape on my Suzuki Gixxer SF 250

Little did I know what memories I would be left with at the end of this ride!

BHPian neil.jericho recently shared this with other enthusiasts:

With a fellow TBHPian and I having exactly enough time for a short but sweet late morning weekend ride, it was all too easy for us to select the Galibore Nature Camp as our destination. A few months ago, KarthikK, Dr CD, ebmrajesh and I did an early morning ride to the same place, and while the views from the Sangam view point were great, what I remember the most about that Sunday morning ride, was being hit by the abysmally low temperature after we left the city. Little did I know what memories I would be left with at the end of this ride!

We met up a little later than usual but were fortunate not to encounter any real traffic on our ride to Kanakapura town. Deviating from the usual script of crispy dosas at the Vasu hotel, we tried out an alternative spot which resulted in a rather indifferent breakfast.

With the rain-fed earth resulting in fabulously green surroundings, our ride from Kanakapura to the Sangama viewpoint was lovely. Compared to the dried grasslands and largely brown surroundings in February, now the Sangama viewpoint has been painted with myriad shades of green, which gives it an effervescence that is hard to put into words. Set against the backdrop of the gloomy grey sky, this was the exact opposite of what we had witnessed earlier in the year.

After riding down to the Galibore Nature Camp, I was asked if I wanted to explore the off-road trail that had escaped my attention. This is nearly impossible to spot when you are heading towards the nature camp but on the return, you cannot miss it if you are looking out for it. While this is far from what the GSXRRRRR 250 has been built for, I was confident that the light weight (of the motorcycle, not me!), coupled with my moderate skills, wouldn’t leave me in a world of trouble. I was laughing so much on our ride down the trail that it was nearly impossible to focus on the braking and getting back to tarmac without spilling over. One can only imagine the looks of chagrin on the faces of the engineering team that built the GSXRRR 250 if they were to witness what I have put the motorcycle through over the last few years. A word of caution – please dont attempt this trail if you aren’t skilled or if you have too much confidence in your abilities.

After all the fun and games, we slowly made our way back to Bangalore, grateful that the pregnant clouds spared us from the rain, and thankful for the motorcycling experiences that we were blessed with.
