Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has directed the Education department officials to take steps to further strengthen the education system in the State.

He directed the Additional Collectors to visit State-run schools at least twice a week to inspect the facilities there. The Chief Minister held a review meeting with senior officials of the department on Wednesday.

Officials informed the Chief Minister that over 48,000 students from private educational institutions joined the government schools this academic year. Mr. Revanth Reddy wanted the officials to take up construction of additional classrooms in line with the increased student strength besides taking steps to provide adequate facilities to children with special needs.

Steps should also be taken to provide amenities enabling cooking of midday meals in the schools. In this context, he favoured installation of solar-powered kitchens relieving women from the hardships of cooking on gas stoves or relying on wood.

The Chief Minister enquired with the officials about the significant variation in the number of students passing tenth standard and those joining Intermediate level courses. Steps should be taken to ensure that all tenth qualified students joined Intermediate education.

Officials were directed to introduce skill development courses for students completing Intermediate level education so that they are assured of livelihood opportunities.
