Crime rate decreased by 35.85% in Kurnool district in 2024, says SP

Superintendent of Police G. Bindhu Madhav on Sunday said there was a decline in crime rate by 35.85% in 2024 when compared to the previous year, in the district.

Briefing media on the number of cases and other aspects of policing at the annual yearender press briefing, Mr. Bindhu Madhav said while 7,877 cases were registered in 2023, the number was 5,053 in 2024. A total of 38 murder cases were registered in 2023 while in 2024, the number was 31. According to the SP, 48 attempt-to-murder cases were registered in 2023 and 39 in 2024 while 15 cases of kidnappings each were registered in 2023 and 2024.

The police have recovered 65.05% of the stolen property in the year. While more than ₹5.65 crore was stolen, the police could recover ₹3.67 crore property.

However, there was an increase in POCSO cases. In 2023, 22 grave offences of POCSO were registered while this year, the numbers have went up to 30. Similarly, 32 non-grave POCSO cases were registered this year as against the 22 in 2023. The police could trace 147 girls who went missing out of the 154 cases reported while 232 women of the 244 women who went missing were traced.

The cybercrime cases witnessed a steep rise in the year. While 41 cybercrime cases were registered in 2023, 104 cases were registered this year and ₹56.37 lakh defrauded money refunded to the accounts of the victims.

In the Lok Adalat held in four phases this year, 3,220 cases have been resolved and 587 mobile phones worth ₹1.34 crore were handed over to their owners as part of mobile recovery mela.
