Dawn Staley has trained some impressive South Carolina Gamecocks players who have gone on to be WNBA stars. The women’s basketball coach makes sure to send her former players encouraging notes as they reach new heights in their careers.
On June 25, Staley had a heartfelt word of encouragement for Aliyah Boston of the Indiana Fever and Kamilla Cardoso of the Chicago Sky, after she posted excited notes about the players throughout their games the night before.
“Am good peeps!” she wrote on X. “And good morning to @aa_boston and @Kamillascsilva for having career nights last night! @WNBA + @GamecockWBB”
One person replied to her post, writing, “You produce the best coach!”
The Indiana Fever played Seattle Storm on June 24, winning 94 to 86. And the Chicago Sky faced off against the Los Angeles Sparks, winning 97 to 86.
Boston, who was named 2023 WNBA Rookie of the Year, was a powerhouse on Staley’s team. And last night, Boston led all the scorers with a career-high 31 points, along with eight rebounds, three assists and two steals.
After the Seattle Storm win, the Indiana Fever celebrated Boston’s big night with an Instagram post dedicated to her.
Cardoso also scored a career high of 27 points last night against the Sparks. She’ll miss the next three games as she competes for Team Brazil at the AmeriCup Tournament starting June 28. When she was with South Carolina, Cardoso won two national championships with the team.
The WNBA posted a tribute message on their Instagram Story to Cardoso, naming her a top performer.
Staley also celebrated her players last night during their big games.
“@Kamillascsilva with the career high 27th!! Keep stacking Kmill! Don’t look back! This is your standard!!!” she wrote.
And about Boston, she posted, “@aa_boston with the rim run easy bucket! Get buckets AB get buckets!!”
