Hyundai’s 1st Hybrid SUV For India

The South Korean automaker is planning to join the hybrid bandwagon in India with the Hyundai Creta hybrid in 2027. The SUV will feature a 1.5L, 4-cylinder petrol hybrid powertrain, which is expected to be high on fuel efficiency. The hybridisation of this petrol motor will help the carmaker control manufacturing costs and achieve competitive pricing. Hyundai’s decision to go hybrid comes from the upcoming stricter CAFÉ Phase III standards and the challenges of electric vehicles.

As of now, the Hyundai Creta model lineup is available with three engine options – a 115bhp, 1.5L petrol, a 160bhp, 1.5L direct-injection turbo petrol and a 115bhp, 1.5L diesel. The hybrid powertrain will be introduced with the next-generation model. The new-gen Creta is expected to receive comprehensive changes inside and out.

Once launched, the Hyundai Creta hybrid will take on the upcoming Kia Seltos hybrid and Renault Duster hybrid, both of which are slated to hit roads in 2026. Nissan will also introduce its rebadged version of the Renault Duster with the petrol-hybrid powertrain. Compared to its ICE counterpart, the Creta hybrid will surely be more expensive and could be offered only in the top-end trims. More details on the new Hyundai hybrid SUV are likely to be revealed in near future.

Hyundai 7-Seater Hybrid SUV Plan:

After the Creta hybrid, the South Korean automaker will roll out a three-row hybrid SUV – codenamed Hyundai Ni1i. It will also feature the same 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol hybrid powertrain, which will debut on the Creta. Reports suggest that the upcoming Hyundai 7-seater hybrid SUV will be based on the long-wheelbase version of the Tucson (Tucson LWB), which is currently on sale in China.

The new Hyundai 7-seater hybrid SUV will be manufactured at the carmaker’s Talegaon facility. This plant will also serve as the production hub for the new-generation Venue, which is scheduled to launch during the 2025 Diwali season.
