HYDERABAD: Raidurgam police arrested a 28-year-old hotel worker from Uttar Pradesh for the rape of a 23-year-old woman. The accused allegedly met the woman at a liquor shop, and invited her to his place stating that it would be unsafe for her to drink at the permit room. Once at his place, the man reportedly forced her to drink excessively, after which she fell unconscious. He then raped her and took pictures, in a bid to blackmail her into silence. Once the woman regained consciousness, she escaped and lodged a complaint with the Raidurgam police on Tuesday. Police registered a case of rape against the accused. He was arrested and produced before a magistrate who remanded him to judicial custody. The survivor has been offered counselling, legal and medical support, police said.(The victim’s identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
