Hyderabad: Man loses Rs 14 lakh in online job scam

Hyderabad: A 43-year-old man from the city was duped to the tune of Rs 14 lakh by cyber fraudsters who promised a part-time work-from-home job.

The victim was contacted via WhatsApp by a fraudster who offered a part-time work-from-home job. The job required the victim to provide Google reviews and feedback, for which he initially received some payments.

After gaining the victim’s trust, the fraudsters introduced an investment opportunity in crypto currency, promising high returns. The victim was then instructed to contact a person on Telegram, who further explained the job details and payment process.

“Later, another scammer, using the Telegram ID, guided the victim to create an account on a trading platform and was also added to a group where several other victims were present. Under false promises and coercion, the victim transferred a total amount of Rs 14 lakh,” cybercrime officials said.

Based on the victim’s complaint, the Hyderabad Cybercrime Police booked a case and took up investigation.
