Vijayawada: The AP high court on Friday declined to grant interim relief from arrest to Chevireddy Mohit Reddy in the alleged liquor scam case. Mohit moved the high court seeking to quash the case against him and also challenged notices issued to him for appearing before the SIT as a witness.Arguing on his behalf, senior counsel Nageswara Rao sought interim protection from arrest, stating the SIT included Mohit as an accused and, at the same time, also summoned him as a witness. This would mean Mohit deposing against himself, which is against constitutional provisions and SC guidelines, he said. Arguing on behalf of CID, advocate general Dammalapati Srinivas sought time to file a counter affidavit on the role of the petitioner. Mentioning that Mohit has already moved an application in the trial court seeking anticipatory bail, he stated that he cannot seek interim protection in a quash petition when his anticipatory bail plea is pending before the competent court.Considering this, Justice K Srinivas Reddy asked the CID to file a counter affidavit and declined to grant interim protection to Mohit. Court posted the case to July 2.
