The road cleaning in Nellore city would now only be done using the sweeping machines, said Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Dr. Ponguru Narayana.

As part of this initiative, 28 sweeping machine vehicles have been brought to the city through Swachh Andhra Corporation, he added.

The Minister inaugurated a sweeping machine vehicle in 7th Division Stone House Peta on Friday. On the occasion, he drove the demo vehicle and conducted a trial run.

Nellore Municipal Corporation (NMC) has purchased the sweeping machine vehicle worth ₹10 crore in partnership with Swachh Andhra Corporation

With this, the total number of sweeping machine vehicles at NMC has reached 28. The Minister said that manual sweeping of the main roads would be stopped, while adding that “they have focused on machine sweeping to improve the cleanliness of the roads”. He said that Nellore roads will be dust-free in 49 days because of these new cleaning machines.

He said that the number of sweeping machine vehicles would be increased in phases based on the requirement. Sweeping machine vehicles are being made available in all the municipalities across the State. He further said that all the government schools in 125 municipalities will also get a new lease of life with the ongoing renovation works.

Tidco Houses by Diwali

Meanwhile, the Minister also conducted a review on the activities related to Ongole Urban Development Authority (OUDA). During the meeting, he announced that the pending works of Tidco houses will be completed soon and will be handed over to the beneficiaries by Diwali this year.

He said, “The previous government had not given the Tidco houses but had raised a bank loan on the name of the beneficiaries, and they have become Non-Performing Assets (NPAs) due to non-repayment of the loans. When the bankers brought this matter to the attention of the State government, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had directed immediate payment of ₹140 crore to the bankers.”

The Minister informed that the bankers have now come forward to provide loans to the beneficiaries. He revealed that the process of completing the construction of houses has begun across the State and that representatives of L&T company will take up the construction work in Prakasam district in the next 15 days.

Tidco houses have been taken up in three categories, with areas of 300, 365, and 430 square feet. He announced that 365 and 430 square feet houses will be completed first and handed over to the beneficiaries by Diwali, while adding that steps have been taken to recycle 85 lakh tonnes of garbage left over from the previous government across the State by October 2.
