BJP Targets TMC Govt

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) slammed the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) government, saying that under Mamata Banerjee’s rule, West Bengal had become a breeding ground for crimes against women.

“Rapes have become a daily horror, and the state machinery continues to fail its daughters. Enough is enough. BJP will not stay silent. We will fight tooth and nail to end this rape culture that has flourished under TMC’s rule,” the party said.

Taking to X, BJP leader Amit Malviya called the incident “horrific” and cited reports as saying that a member of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) was also involved. “The horror of RG Kar hasn’t faded, and yet such heinous crimes continue to rise daily in Bengal. Under Mamata Banerjee’s rule, West Bengal has become a nightmare for women. Rape has turned into a routine tragedy,” he said.

“The BJP stands with the victim and her family. We are determined to end this culture of impunity. We will not rest until every culprit is punished.”

The Kasba rape happened less than a year after a post-graduate trainee doctor was raped and murdered at the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 8 and 9 last year, sending shockwaves throughout the nation and sparking widespread protests from the medical fraternity.

The body of the trainee was found in a seminar hall at the hospital in the early hours of August 9, 2024, triggering a statewide protest. Sanjoy Roy, a civic volunteer, was arrested the following day in connection with the crime and was later sentenced to life imprisonment.
