Telangana’s turmeric moment: Amit Shah to open board in Nizamabad on June 29; farmers, leaders hail move

HYDERABAD: The office of the National Turmeric Board will be inaugurated by Union home minister Amit Shah in Nizamabad on June 29. Making the announcement at a press meet on Thursday, Union minister and Telangana BJP chief Kishan Reddy expressed his happiness that the long-standing aspiration of turmeric farmers was fulfilled with the establishment of the Board. “Despite promises from various political parties, it was due to Nizamabad MP D Arvind’s efforts that Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the turmeric board in Jan this year,” he said.Although other states had requested the board, PM Modi’s decision to locate it in Nizamabad was a gift to local farmers, he said and urged farmers to attend the inauguration in large numbers. He said that Amit Shah would also unveil the statue of former minister D Srinivas in Nizamabad on the day.He hailed the appointment of Palle Ganga Reddy, a farmer’s son, as its first chairperson.
