45,000 km with my Ecosport S Ecoboost: Why I still love the SUV

Stiff suspension helps me go over broken roads with aplomb.

Update at 45K Kms

So me and my friends did a short 3 day roadtrip towards the Konkan interior of Dapoli and GanapatiPule. Ecosport behaved excellently and it was a fuss free road trip.

Some stats

  • Distance covered– 682.7km
  • Fuel taken– 51.59L
  • Fuel stops– 1
  • Mileage– 13.23 kmpl

Niggles/issues

  • The front left footwell lighting panel had come off. Turns out its missing one screw. Currently I have fitted it back using the lone screw it still has. Unless someone really stretches their legs, this won’t come off again, but to be on the safer side I will get the new screw fitted.
  • The rear right passenger window stopped working. It was working from the master switch of driver side. I checked again once I reached home, and it started working again. Looks like a loose contact or a switch that needs cleaning.

Pros

  • The poise of the Ecosport remains unmatched. After having driven a Sonet iMT and Seltos Facelift GT Line 1.5 Turbo in the past 3 years, I can confidently say, Ecosport Ecoboost is still the most fun car!
  • NVH was better than Sonet (1.0 turbo) but equal to the Seltos (at speed). At idle and cold start, Seltos was much better.
  • Good lights, cornering function of fogs helped.
  • Pin point accuracy of auto wipers makes drives very relaxing on varying monsoon rains.
  • Stiff suspension helped me go over broken roads with aplomb. Bigger 205/55/17 tyres helped in ride quality.
  • Ecoboost and the chassis is a wonder. Hairpin bends, super steep inclines, or long open roads. Encountered all, and conquered all! Steering was also super direct and very communicative. Once in the turbo zone (1500 rpm), the car pulls like a locomotive and is very very addictive.
  • It’s super tractable too. I can easily engage the 6th gear at 40 Kph and even in cruise control it picks up at the same gear and speed.
  • The BOV sound too is music to the years. Climbing/descending the steep inclines of Kumbharli ghat and Tamhini ghat with the windows down and the BOV “psshh” sound was fantastic

Cons

  • Encountered a very bad patch for about an hour or so where the car was to be driven in 1st or 2nd gear. Stiff setup reared its ugly head.
  • The halogen high beam is average. Could have given LED for uniform look or something about 4300 K color temperature.
  • Ecosport has a lot of cup and bottle holders. I wish they were felt lined as sometimes if all of them are occupied it might make rackety sound!

Here’s to many such miles and
