Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority signs MoU with Army for two elevated corridors in Secunderabad

Hyderabad: Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) on Saturday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Army for the transfer of 160 acre defence land required for the construction of two elevated corridors in Secunderabad. According to the officials, work on the two elevated skyways is expected to begin by July-end. The project aims to improve traffic flow and connectivity in the Secunderabad Cantonment area.As per the MoU, the timeline of the project is 2.5 years, and it is likely to be finished by 2027 end. The two skyways would extend from Paradise to Shamirpet and Paradise to Dairy Farm Road along Medchal Road. Following the agreement, work on the construction of compound walls and other related army infrastructure is expected to begin shortly.The MoU outlined the key modalities, timelines, and processes for land transfer, construction of compound walls and other Army assets, and measures for safeguarding vital defence installations during the construction phase. The ministry of defence (MoD) earlier gave working permission for the elevated corridor project on March 1, 2024. However, work was delayed as the state awaited the formal transfer of defence land. The construction of the two skyways would require 160 acres of defence land. In return, the Telangana govt is offering 330 acres of land in Jawaharnagar and other areas, according to senior officials. According to the officials, for the Paradise-Shamirpet corridor, 114 acres of defence land and 78 acres of private land would be needed. The Paradise-Dairy Farm Road corridor would need 42 acres of defence land and 13 acres of private land. The project would also include two underground tunnels, one near Begumpet airport and another near Air Force Station, Hakimpet, as part of the corridor design.
