Hyderabad: A 17-year-old first-year intermediate student at the Telangana Social Welfare Residential Junior College (TGSWRJC) in Shaikpet died by suicide on Saturday morning.
In an official statement, the Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TGSWREIS) identified the student as B Prabhas, a native of Zaheerabad, who was enrolled in the MPC stream of the junior college.
According to the Society, Prabhas was found hanging from a ceiling fan with a bedsheet inside the dormitory hall around 10:30 a.m. The sweepers, who were attending to cleaning duties, discovered him and rushed him to the nearby Government Area Hospital in Shaikpet by 10:55 a.m. On the way, health personnel administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
“Despite best efforts by the doctors, the student could not be revived. He was declared dead on arrival,” the statement read.
The college staff reportedly found a selfie video recorded by the student, in which he shared that his parents were not understanding him. The Society did not disclose further details, citing the emotional nature of the incident.
Authorities have informed the family, and further investigation is underway.
