WTMF is designed with Indian users in mind, understanding mixed-language texts, local slang, and emotional nuances often missed by global AI companions
Hyderabad: In a first-of-its-kind initiative, Hyderabad-based startup Knockverse Private Limited claimed that they are set to launch ‘WTMF (What’s The Matter, Friend?)’, an emotionally intelligent AI companion designed to offer a safe, judgment-free space for users to express their feelings. The beta version of the app is scheduled for release in August 2025.
Unlike conventional AI tools built for productivity, WTMF focuses on emotional presence. It provides two interaction modes, Vent, which offers calm, empathetic support, and Rant, a sassier, more playful tone, tailored to how users prefer to communicate.
“It all started as a conversation about loneliness,” said Kruthivarsh Koduru, Co-Founder of Knockverse. “Everyone is building AI to sound smart. We thought — what if it just made you feel better?”
WTMF is designed with Indian users in mind, understanding mixed-language texts, local slang, and emotional nuances often missed by global AI companions. The app also allows users to personalise their AI friend’s tone, mood, and language style, offering replies that feel emotionally in tune.
“We didn’t want to build another dry, robotic chatbot,” said Shreyak Singh, Co-Founder of Knockverse. “We wanted to create something emotionally available, a voice that actually texts back when you’re spiralling at 2:43 AM.”
Targeted primarily at Gen Z and young millennials, the app includes features like journaling, mood tracking, and voice-based interactions, aiming to address rising levels of emotional overwhelm and therapy hesitancy among younger users.
WTMF is currently in its final development phase, with over 1,500 people already on the waitlist.
