But instead of rectifying those mistakes, he and Captain Gill already seem to be making contradictory statements and potentially blundering decisions.

Instead of including bowlers like Kuldeep and Bumrah in the playing XI, the captain and coach seem to be adamant on the fact that they need more depth in batting.
The inclusion of Nitish Reddy and Washington Sundar is a direct implication of that. But GG and Gill need to realise that this is a test match, not the IPL.

Here, batting depth in the tail would at most mean a draw, considering how easily the English batters are able to catch up to our leads.
What we need instead is a proper bowling attack to take 20 wickets. That seemed to be in Gill’s mind on July 1st. But something must have happened as he took a direct U-turn right the next day to voice his support for batting depth in the team.

If such shenanigans go on, it won’t be long before the Indian team faces yet another crushing BGT-like defeat at the hands of the English.
