The direct flight service between Kurnool and Vijayawada commenced its operation on Wednesday. The flight was inaugurated virtually by Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu from Delhi, while Industries and Commerce Minister T.G. Bharath, MPs and officials were present at the airport.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Rammohan Naidu said Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is keen on developing airports in the State. “The flight service will improve connectivity of undivided Kurnool and Anantapur district to other places. The Chief Minister wants to make Andhra Pradesh a logistics hub by developing new airports,” he said.
Mr. Rammohan Naidu said they have increased flight services from Visakhapatnam, Rajamahendravaram, Vijayawada, Tirupati, Kadapa and Kurnool airports in the past one year. “We are moving forward with construction of new airports at Bhogapuram, Nellore, Anantapur and Kuppam,” he said. The Union Minister further said that the new service between Vijayawada and Kurnool would be run three days a week and steps would be taken to run it on a daily basis.
Mr. Rammohan Naidu said that the development of Orvakal airport would boost industrial development in Kurnool.
Industries and Commerce Minister T.G. Bharath urged Mr. Rammohan Naidu to facilitate night landing of flights at the Orvakal airport as industrialists would be visiting the Orvakal industrial hub frequently.
