BHPian Maddies@07 recently shared this with other enthusiasts: When I was considering buying a diesel car while living in Chennai, countless people warned me against it. “Diesel engines come with a DPF,” they said, as if it were a curse. Yes indeed, it’s a curse if we don’t maintain our DPF vehicle correctly. But here’s the thing-once you’ve experienced the irresistible torque of a diesel engine, there’s no turning back. For me, the peak torque arrives right where it matters most-in the rev band perfectly suited to India’s real-world driving conditions. And the power in that range is more than enough for my needs. Even in the worst conditions, I rarely push beyond 120 km/hr, so a diesel engine fits my driving style like a glove. Now, I know many folks wonder how a Creta Diesel Automatic holds up in Chennai’s infamous bumper-to-bumper traffic. So here’s my real-world report. My driving split is about 85% city and 15% highway. I’m a bit obsessive about tracking fuel efficiency, so I always go tank-to-tank to measure it accurately. During April and May, when I was driving nearly 95% within Chennai city, my fuel efficiency figures ranged from a worst of 12.85 km/l to a best of 16.42 km/l. Not bad at all, considering the traffic snarls and summer heat. So, if you’re tempted by the diesel torque and wondering whether it’s practical for a city like Chennai, I’d say: absolutely yes-as long as you look after your DPF. For me, it’s been worth every drop of diesel! I’m attaching screenshots from the Fuelio app to back up my fuel efficiency figures. Check out BHPian comments for more insights and information.
