That’s a sweet ride. Congrats to the new owner!
I always wondered why people bother with such old vehicles until about a year ago when I had the wonderful experience of driving one.
We were in Tbilisi, Georgia and decided to rent a car to get to Kutaisi. It’s about a 220KM drive. I had booked a relatively new Hyundai Elantra but when we went to pickup the car we got an old Camry that did about 180K Miles. We were a bit skeptical but the rental guy assured us that it was in top condition. And he was absolutely right!
We had a late lunch/early dinner and started at ~7pm from Tbilisi. The car impressed me right away. It was incredibly smooth, has a very linear acceleration and never broke a sweat. The roads were mostly concrete but apart from the louder tyre noise on concrete, the ride was very comfortable. If I didn’t see the odometer I’d have said the car did about 30-40K Miles at most. Even the interiors were very well maintained.
That being said, I now have a very different perspective on used cars. I’ve learnt that sometimes it absolutely makes sense to buy a well maintained car.
