Telangana HC directs tribunal to expedite 22-year-old SBI industrial dispute case

HYDERABAD: The Telangana High Court on Tuesday directed the Central Government Industrial Tribunal-cum-Labour Court to adjudicate and dispose of the industrial dispute involving a former employee of the State Bank of India. The dispute has been pending since 2002. Justice Surepalli Nanda gave the directions while dealing with a petition filed by Komdamudi Chandra Sekhar Rao, who previously worked at the SBI Ponnur Branch in Guntur district, AP. Rao contended that his termination was the subject of an industrial dispute pending before the Central Government Industrial Tribunal-cum-Labour Court, Hyderabad, and that despite an earlier High Court order issued in June 2014, his case remained undecided. He argued that the prolonged pendency in deciding the matter not only violated principles of natural justice but also infringed his right to livelihood. He appealed to the High Court for a direction for a time-bound disposal of the dispute by the Tribunal. He further added that the concerned authorities, including the SBI, did not dispute the pendency of the case. Justice Nanda, while disposing of the petition, directed that the matter be adjudicated expeditiously within eight weeks after giving an opportunity for a hearing to all parties involved.
