New Platform
The new Tata Harrier and Safari will switch to a new flexible platform, which is said to be similar to the one Mahindra is set to unveil on 15th August, 2025. Currently, both SUVs are built on a derivative of Land Rover’s D8 platform – the Omega architecture.
Longer & More Spacious
The new platform is likely to increase the overall length of the SUVs by 100mm to 200mm. This also hints that the new Tata Harrier and Safari will might have more cabin space to offer than the existing ones.

More Advanced Features
Interestingly, Tata has partnered with Desay SV Automotive – a China-based mobility technology firm for developing a next-generation electrical and electronic (E&E) architecture. This system will support both ICE and EV powertrains and will also enabled advanced infotainment, connected features and ADAS (advanced driving assistance systems). This means, the new Tata Safari and Harrier SUVs will feature improved software integration, new autonomous features and a more advanced digital cockpit.
AWD Ready
Tata’s new flexible platform underpinning the new-gen Harrier and Safari will support an AWD (all-wheel drive) system, which will be first for both models. The existing models of SUVs are available only with the FWD (front-wheel drive) setup.
Petrol & Diesel Engines
Tata Motors is all set to introduce a new 1.5L direct injection turbocharged petrol engine with the Harrier and Safari during 2025 festive season. This engine will be carried forward to the new-generation models alongside an upgraded version of the existing 2.0L diesel engine. Tata Motors recently acquired the licensing rights for in house development and upgradation of Fiat’s 2.0L diesel engine. The updated version of the engine is expected to deliver more power, and will likely debut with the new Tata Harrier and Safari.
