HYDERABAD

Increase in coal production in the underground mines would hold key to the Singareni Collieries’ plans to achieve 76 million tonnes production this year (2025-26) and it should be at least 1.8 lakh tonnes (0.18 million tonnes) every day during July, Chairman and Managing Director of SCCL N. Balaram said on Saturday.

Reviewing the company’s progress in coal production and dispatch during the first quarter (April-June) of the current financial year here, he said the transportation of coal (to customers) should at least be 2.15 lakh tonnes (0.21 million tonnes) a day in July. He expressed satisfaction over the dispatches of coal in the first quarter with 104% achievement as against the target of 16.09 million tonnes the transportation done was 16.67 million tonnes.

The production of coal in the first quarter was 15.99 million tonnes (99%) against the target of 16.09 million tonnes. However, it is 4.33% lower (15.99 million tonnes) compared to the first quarter in the last fiscal (16.71 million tonnes), according to the company officials. The dispatches too were a shade better last year at 16.69 million tonnes against 16.67 million tonnes in the first quarter this year.

Mr. Balaram stated that the ground-breaking for coal mining in the V.K. opencast mine in Kothagudem area would be done later this month. He instructed the authorities concerned to speed up work related to environmental and forest clearances for J.K. and Goleti mines. He also wanted the officials to ensure the quality (grade) of coal assured to consumers to retain them in the coming years too.

Further, he told the officials to conduct safety audits in every mine in operation and rectify shortcomings, if any. He also enquired about the coal production in the Naini mine in Odisha and told the officials to make arrangements to dispatch the coal produced to the nearby Chhendipada railway siding for its onward transportation.

Later, he handed over the certificate to Singareni’s first women rescue team and the RG-2 mines rescue station for emerging as the best training centre. He mentioned that the rescue teams from Singareni had taken part in the Srisailam Left Bank Canal tunnel collapse rescue operation, blast in a pharmaceutical company at Pashamylaram and in Tamil Nadu.

Director of the company Gautam Potru (Admin), D. Satyanarayana Rao (E&M), K. Venkateshwarlu (Projects & Planning), L.V. Suryanarayana (Operations) and other senior executives participated.
