50,000 km wth my MG Comet: Summary of a year & 7 months of ownership

Since I have gone through the learning curve, befriending ‘regeneration’, the tyres and brake pads are in pretty good condition.

BHPian ALTIMAed recently shared this with other enthusiasts:

Hi Folks, yesterday, after owning the Comet for 1 year, 7 months and 23 days, I have crossed the 50,000 kms milestone. The ownership has been unexpectedly pleasant barring a couple of incidences where the infotainment system went blank. With just 2 punctures, the first time I had to use the puncture sealing liquid (the entire task of getting to roll again was just 10 mins), the second incident, it was a slow puncture, I easily reached a puncture shop.

I have logged in the data from day 1, hence have accurate data on the range, charging cost and service cost (which is extremely cheap). For sure, there is no need to take AMC for an EV, on the other hand extended warranty is a must. I have opted for the 4 year unlimited kms option.

Since I have gone through the learning curve, befriending ‘regeneration’, the tyres and brake pads are in pretty good condition, hence pretty confident they shall hold on for along time.

Across the ownership, some statistics are as follows:

  • 87 kms – Average daily running
  • 268 kms – Highest range achieved
  • 159 kms – Lowest range achieved
  • 241 kms – Highest average range – March 2024
  • 176 kms – Lowest average range – June 2024
  • SOH of the drive battery at the 40,000 kms was 97.63% (shall report the SOH at the 50,000 kms service, once I get it done)

A steep dip was observed during the peak summers, for obvious reasons, the ac compressor working overtime.

The AC is a chiller, no doubts here. During the monsoon, the front windshield tends to fog up, playing around with the air discharge controls does help, but not in a satisfactory manner.

I purchased the Comet on 11th November 2023, at that time, the Fast Charging variant was yet to be introduced. In Jan, saw a major price drop, well, did feel bad, but thinking positive, I purchased the car when I needed it, also the amount I had saved during this period, blew away the ‘bad’ feeling. What really hit hard was when the Comet Fast Charging variant was launched somewhere in March 2024. Since the Comet is my primary and only car, used to travel to work and back (Dwarka, New Delhi – Gurgaon), apart from doing long distance trips, FC is something I really miss. As per my experience and calculation, for every one hour I charge my car, the range increases by just 33 kms, as compared to 66 kms in the FC variant. While travelling long distance, I just top up the car to last me to the next charging location, plus adding 30 kms extra as a contingency plan. The charging breaks duration would have been halved had it been the fast charging variant.

Over all, pretty happy and content with my purchase.

Ending with a snap of the MID
