Honda’s First Hybrid SUV for India

Honda Cars India entered the highly competitive midsize SUV market with the Elevate in the second half of 2023. While the model initially generated strong volumes for the carmaker, it failed to retain its sales momentum. Currently, the SUV lineup is available with a single 121bhp/145Nm, 1.5L, 4-cylinder petrol engine and two gearbox options – a 6-speed manual and a 7-step CVT automatic.

Honda Elevate Hybrid Launch In 2026

Enthusiasts had earlier criticized Honda for not brining a hybrid powertrain with the Elevate, especially when hybrid technology could serve as a key USP in the segment where most rivals miss out on it (expect for the Maruti Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder). However, that won’t be the case for long. The Japanese automaker is now planning to introduce the Honda Elevate hybrid SUV in the second half of the calendar year 2026 (July to December).

According to a fresh media report, the new Honda hybrid SUV will soon enter production at the company’s Tapukara manufacturing facility in Alwar, Rajasthan. Production preparations are already underway and the company is aiming a market launch around the 2026 festive season.

Strong Hybrid Powertrain:

Powertrain details of the Honda Elevate Hybrid are not available at the moment. For reference, the Honda City e:HEV comes with an Atkinson Cycle 1.5L, 4-cylinder petrol engine, paired with two electric motor (one functioning as an electric generator and the other for propulsion). With an eCVT transmission, this configuration delivers a claimed fuel efficiency of 26.5kmpl and a driving range of around 1,000km. The same powertrain could be used for the new Honda hybrid SUV; however, its performance figures might be different.

Expected Pricing:

The Honda Elevate hybrid is expected to carry a premium of around Rs 2 lakh – Rs 2.5 lakh over the standard petrol variant. At present, the SUV lineup is available in 21 variants, including Apex Edition and Black Edition, priced between Rs 11.91 lakh – Rs 16.73 lakh (all, ex-showroom).
