CM Revanth Reddy to lay foundation for Godavari phase-II & III; major boost to Hyderabad’s water supply

HYDERABAD: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy will soon lay the foundation stone to commence work on Godavari Phase-II and III, aimed at bringing 20 TMC of water to Hyderabad from Mallannasagar, a reservoir with a capacity of 50 TMC located in Siddipet district, about 70 km from the city. After the Congress govt sanctioned the works, tenders for the Rs 7,360 crore Phase-II & III were finalised, with Megha Engineering Infrastructure Limited and Ramky Group winning the contract. The two agencies have been tasked with completing both phases within 24 months.MA&UD officials, along with the HMWSSB, have forwarded the file to the chief minister’s office, which will finalise the day and time for the foundation-laying ceremony near Gandipet. Revanth Reddy also holds the MAUD portfolio.Political significanceSources said both phases are important not only to meet the increasing drinking water needs of the city, which has expanded up to the Outer Ring Road as the “Telangana Core Urban Area,” but also because starting the work on it assumes political significance with the municipal and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation polls approaching. These elections are expected to be held soon after the panchayat elections, which is likely to be completed before Sept 30 in compliance with the high court orders.
