There’s always a Hyderabad story simmering within me, and I might return to it when the time is right. The idea of exploring Hyderabad’s culture and essence through film continues to inspire me, says filmmaker Nagesh Kukunoor in an exclusive interview with Deccan Chronicle.
Will there be another Hyderabad Blues?
I have already made a sequel to Hyderabad Blues in 2003, so I have technically revisited that space. While I have a deep connection to Hyderabad and would love to capture its essence again on film, the story I want to tell changes as I grow older. I have attempted to make another Hyderabad film periodically, but it hasn’t materialised yet. There’s always a Hyderabad story simmering within me, and I might return to it when the time is right. The idea of exploring Hyderabad’s culture and essence through film continues to inspire me.
So how much has Hyderabad changed from what you have seen till now?
Hyderabad has undergone significant changes over the years. The city has expanded rapidly, with new areas like Gachibowli and Madhapur sprouting up. However, I believe that a city’s culture is shaped over centuries, not decades. The true essence of Hyderabad still lies in the old city, where my parents live and areas like Abids, Narayanguda, and Secunderabad.
These neighborhoods have a distinct culture that’s synonymous with Hyderabad. People may live in different parts of the city, the love for traditional things remains. I know times have changed. But I still like my chai and Osmania biscuits.
