Police not recovery agents: Telangana HC tells petitioner, rejects plea to recover loan; advises civil suit for money disputes

HYDERABAD: Making it clear that police cannot be asked to play the role of recovery agents, Justice T Vinod Kumar of the Telangana HC refused to entertain a plea that was seeking directions from the court to police to effect such recovery. The judge was dealing with a petition filed by one V Satish Kumar, who complained against P Dinesh. According to the counsel for the petitioner, Dinesh took money from Satish and did not repay. His complaint to police was not registered as an FIR. Police had informed him that he has to file a suit for recovery of money in a civil court and that they cannot interfere in such civil matters. Aggrieved by this, Satish approached the HC. Justice Vinod observed that he cannot order police to recover money from Dinesh at the instance of Satish. “This is nothing but practically reducing the role of police to that of recovery agents,” he said.
