Hyderabad: A man was killed by his wife, allegedly over frequent harassment, at Vattepally in Mailardevpally around 10.30 am on Wednesday. According to police, the deceased, Shaik Mohammed, 31, was unemployed and addicted to alcohol. He would reportedly harass his wife, Shaik Fareeda, 30, regularly for money.
On Tuesday night, an argument broke out between the couple. Later, while Mohammed was asleep, Fareeda allegedly struck him on the head with a stone. The incident came to light at 10.30 am on Wednesday. Police rushed to the spot and shifted the body to Osmania General Hospital for post-mortem examination. A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
Dalmia seeks relief in Jagan’s case
Hyderabad: Dalmia Cement Bharat Ltd has approached the Telangana High Court seeking to quash charges filed against it in the disproportionate assets case of former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy.
The company was named as an accused by the CBI in its FIR, which alleged that Dalmia Cement received favourable limestone leases during the tenure of Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy as Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh, in return for investments made in companies owned by Jaganmohan Reddy and his family.
The CBI subsequently filed a chargesheet before the CBI Court, framing multiple allegations against Dalmia Cement. In response, the company moved to the High Court seeking to quash the charges. The Court has issued notices to the CBI, directing it to submit its response.
BJP slams temple officer attack
Hyderabad: BJP national leader and former MLC Dr Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy has strongly condemned the recent attack on the executive officer of the Bhadrachalam temple. The incident reportedly occurred after the officer objected to illegal constructions on temple lands belonging to Sri Bhadrachala Ramulavaru at Purushothapatnam in Yatapaka mandal, Alluri Sitarama Raju district of Andhra Pradesh.
Dr Sudhakar Reddy, who serves as the BJP national co-incharge for Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, stressed that the lands of the Bhadrachalam Temple hold deep spiritual and historical significance for crores of devotees across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. He expressed concern that officials safeguarding these lands are being subjected to threats and violence.
Calling the attack deeply unfortunate, he urged both the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh governments to jointly arrive at a permanent solution to protect the temple’s property. He called for immediate identification, reclamation and protection of all temple lands and demanded strict action against those behind the attack, warning that such incidents must not recur.
Highlighting the cultural and spiritual role of temples, Sudhakar Reddy said it is the collective responsibility of both governments and society to safeguard their assets.
SIT seizes Prabhakar Rao’s devices
Hyderabad: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Wednesday seized the mobile phone and laptop of former Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB) chief T. Prabhakar Rao and sent them to a forensic lab for verification.
The seizure came just days after Rao returned from the United States. The SIT suspects that former DSP G. Praneeth Rao created 613 digital profiles of political leaders, journalists, film actors, judges and others by intercepting their mobile phone data.
The intercepted call data from these profiles was reportedly forwarded to the then SIB chief Prabhakar Rao for review and further action by his staff. During forensic examination, investigators aim to determine whether any hidden files were stored on the devices and whether they were used to receive or process data from Praneeth Rao and other SIB officials.
ATM cut open, cash stolen
Hyderabad:Thieves broke into an HDFC Bank ATM centre at Markandeya Nagar in Jeedimetla in the early hours of Wednesday. Using a gas cutter, they opened one of the machines and fled with the cash box. CCTV footage shows four unidentified persons arriving on two motorcycles, carrying a gas cylinder and welding equipment, police said.
The kiosk housed two ATMs, of which one was targeted and damaged. The incident came to light when a customer noticed the damage and alerted the police and bank staff. A case has been registered. Jeedimetla police said the stolen amount is yet to be confirmed, and surveillance footage is being analysed to identify the culprits.
HYDRAA to revamp 7.5-km drain line
Hyderabad: HYDRAA commissioner A.V. Ranganath has announced that a 7.5-km drain line connecting Masab Cheruvu, Dilawarkhan and Pedda Amberpet lakes will be developed as a model project.
During a joint inspection with Ibrahimpatnam MLA Mal Reddy Ranga Reddy, HYDRAA officials assessed flood-affected areas and waterlogging problems, especially in colonies between Masab Tank and Dilawarkhan lakes. The commissioner also visited the double-bedroom housing site in Jalikunta, where construction work had stalled due to floodwater entering the cellars.
He emphasised the need for full-scale drain development and said future plans would be executed in coordination with the GHMC and Revenue departments. He warned against dumping silt or soil into lakes and stated that strict action would be taken against encroachers.
Chilkur priest slams EO assault
Hyderabad: The priest of Chilkur Balaji Temple has condemned the assault on Bhadrachalam temple executive officer Rama Devi, who was allegedly attacked for objecting to illegal constructions on temple lands belonging to Sri Bhadrachala Ramulavaru at Purushothapatnam in Yatapaka mandal, Alluri Sitaramaraju district.
Calling the incident unacceptable, C.S. Rangarajan, convenor of the Temples Protection Movement, said such aggression reflects a failure to safeguard Deity lands despite court orders. “We at Chilkur have been fighting for the fundamental rights of Deities. How can this be called Rama Rajyam when temple lands are left defenceless and officials are assaulted for protecting them?” he asked.
Rangarajan demanded immediate action against the encroachers.
Bar Council hikes welfare benefits
Hyderabad: The Bar Council of Telangana has announced enhanced welfare benefits for advocates practising in the state’s courts. Naga Lakshmi, secretary of the Bar Council, said the governing body—led by chairman A. Narsimha Reddy and members K. Sunil Goud, Venkat Yadav, Palakurthi Kiran and others—has resolved to increase the death claim from Rs. 6 lakh to Rs.10 lakh. Additionally, the Council has decided to enhance financial assistance for medical expenses to a maximum of Rs.1 lakh during an advocate’s lifetime.
Man killed by wife, daughter
Hyderabad: Ghatkesar police on Wednesday arrested a woman, her daughter and the daughter’s partner for murdering a 45-year-old security guard, their family head, and dumping his body in Edulabad lake. The accused — Sharadha, 40, her daughter Manisha, 25, and Manisha’s partner Mohammed Javeed Hussain, 24 — were arrested after police uncovered their role in the crime.
According to police, the victim, Vadluri Lingam, lived with his family in Kavadiguda and frequently quarrelled with Sharadha, his wife and a GHMC sweeper, accusing her of having an extra-marital affair. He also disapproved of his daughter’s relationship with Javeed.
“To escape his harassment, the three conspired to kill him. They strangled Lingam at home and transported the body in a cab before dumping it in Edulabad lake,” said DCP Malkajgiri P.V. Padmaja.
Sharadha had initially filed a missing person complaint, claiming Lingam had not returned from work. However, injuries on the body raised suspicion, leading to further investigation and the eventual arrests. Further probe is underway.
