Vijayawada: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Vijayawada branch director, Prem Sajani Patnala, stated that 1,050 BIS licenses have been issued in AP under the BIS’ Management System Certification schemes.
She was speaking at the ’Industry Meet’ held here on Thursday by the Vijayawada Branch in association with department of industries of AP and the Federation of Small and Medium Enterprises of India to promote standardisation and quality practices among the industries with more focus on sensitising the micro, small and medium enterprises.
The director laid stress on the role of BIS in formulating over 23,000 Indian Standards and the benefits of standard compliance especially among the SMEs. She mentioned AP’s recent move to include the Indian Standards in its procurement policy.
Industries’ additional director A. Ramblingeswara Raju underscored the impact of BIS certifications, which are voluntary and mandatory, on the consumer trust, product quality and marketability. Referring to the presence of 16 lakh MSMEs and 1,100 large industries in AP, he said that stress on Indian standards was helping rise in export potential and ensuring global acceptance.
FSME India (Skill Development) chairman K.L.N. Prakash discussed at length on hallmarking and helmet standards and lauded BIS’ initiatives in student education through Standards Clubs.
BIS Vijayawada branch deputy director Durgum Vivek Vardhan Reddy explained about Indian standards, quality control orders, BIS Care App usage, licensing, product manuals, testing methods and lab facilities.
Nearly 110 stakeholders, including those from industry, government and regulators, attended the industry meet.
