Vijayawada: A 56-year-old brain-dead man gave a new lease of life to eight people after his family members came forward to donate his organs. The organs of Jyotri Bhanu Sonti, which included his two kidneys, heart, lungs, eyes and liver were donated to patients across various hospitals in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana by his family members. Jyotri Bhanu Sonti, a resident of Governor Pet of Vijayawada, was admitted to Aster Ramesh Hospital, Guntur, after he was hit and run by a motorcycle on July 7 near Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation (IGMC) Stadium when he was out for his walk. Subsequently, the doctors treating the 56-year-old declared him brain dead and with the consent of his family members, arranged organ donation through Jeevandan representatives.While one kidney was donated to a patient in Aster Ramesh Hospital, Guntur, the second kidney was donated to Capital Hospital. The liver and eyes were given to Manipal Hospital and LV Prasad Eye Institute, and the lungs were given to KIMS Hospital in Telangana. His heart was transported to Sri Padmavati Children’s Heart Centre in Tirupati via a special green channel arranged from Guntur to Gannavaram airport.
