HC seeks details in derogatory comments case | Vijayawada News

Vijayawada: The high court on Friday asked police to submit details of the case registered against former MLA Nallapureddy Prasanna Reddy over the derogatory comments he made about Kovvur TDP MLA, Vemireddy Prashanti Reddy. The YSRCP leader moved the high court seeking anticipatory bail in the case. Following a complaint lodged by Prashanti Reddy, stating that Prasanna Reddy made derogatory and obscene comments against her in a public meeting, Kovvur police registered a case against the former MLA under various sections of BNS. Arguing on his behalf, C Subodh said all sections included in the FIR are punishable with imprisonment of less than seven years and pressed for an urgent hearing, contending that the petitioner could be arrested soon. Responding to Subodh’s submissions, public prosecutor Menda Lakshmi Narayana submitted that the case came up for hearing for the first time and sought time to get necessary instructions from the police and details about the case. Considering the arguments, Justice T Mallikharjuna Rao posted the matter for further hearing to July 16, with a direction to police to submit all details pertaining to the case.
