India’s First Hardcore Electric Off-Roader Spied? A Threat to Mahindra

First introduced in 2005, the Force Gurkha was India’s first and only affordable off-road SUV with differential locks, inspired by the Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen. Currently in its second-generation, the SUV has always been favoured for its true off-road nature with minimal electronic fittings. Attributes such as heavy-duty chassis and axles, manual differential locks, snorkel and water wading capabilities make it popular among hardcore off-roaders and overlanders.

More powerful diesel or electric Gurkha?

A test mule of the Force Gurkha was recently spotted testing in Pune without any camouflage, featuring temporary red registration plates. It is speculated to be an electric version of the SUV or a more powerful diesel model. According to an online media report, the carmaker might be testing an updated 2.6L diesel engine. The updated version could be more powerful or efficient than the existing motor, which produces a maximum power of 138bhp and 320Nm of torque.
