Days after dozens of individuals in Hyderabad were hospitalised following the alleged consumption of adulterated toddy from depots in Kukatpally, 49 people remain under treatment across hospitals in the city, with new admissions continuing to be reported.

At the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), 30 individuals are currently receiving care, while 19 others are being treated at Gandhi Hospital.

According to medical officials at Gandhi Hospital, two patients are in an unstable condition and are on inotropic support, while the remaining 17 are reported to be stable. One patient reportedly left the hospital against medical advice.

There was some relief on Saturday, as 10 patients at NIMS are expected to be discharged, officials confirmed. On Friday (July 11), five patients were discharged from the same facility.

The victims were initially brought in on Tuesday night with symptoms such as diarrhoea, low blood pressure, dizziness and fatigue. Since then, hospitals have seen a steady stream of new patients exhibiting similar symptoms.

So far, eight deaths have been linked to the incident. However, only six of these have been formally recorded by police, according to Medchal district excise officer Shaik Fayazuddeen. He stated that FIRs have been filed for six deaths, while the remaining two cases are yet to be officially reported by the family.

Meanwhile, the Telangana Excise and Prohibition Department has arrested five individuals who were allegedly operating the three toddy compounds from which the adulterated toddy was allegedly sold.

The arrested persons have been Idensioned as Kuna Saiteja Goud of Sp Nagar; Ch. Nagesh Goud of Shamshiguda, Indira Nagar; Kuna Raviteja Goud, B. Srinivasa Goud and Kuna Satyam Goud – All from Hydernagar.

Authorities have collected samples of the toddy, and results are awaited. An investigation is currently ongoing.
