Nizamabad Couple Develops Complications After Consuming Toddy In Jeedimetla; Excise Officials Collect Samples

Hyderabad: Even as the investigation into the consumption of adulterated toddy in Kukatpally is on, a couple from Nizamabad district started behaving in a strange manner allegedly after consuming toddy from a shop at Ramreddinagar in Jeedimetla here.

The couple – Lacchiram and Sakribai – from Manchippa village in Nizamabad district came to their daughter Rekha’s house at Gajularamaram on Saturday. As the couple regularly consumes toddy directly extracted from trees in their village, they purchased it from a toddy shop at Ramreddinagar under Qutubullapur excise station limits and consumed it.

Since then the couple started behaving in a strange manner stating that some were attempting to kill them and stray dogs were trying to attack them. In spite of informing them that they were safe, the couple continued to behave in the same manner.

They were also suddenly opening the main doors of the house to go outside. Scared over their parent’s behavior, Rekha first referred them to a clinic and later to Gandhi hospital for further treatment. Interacting with media persons, Rekha said that her parents visited the city several times earlier but never faced such a problem. But this time they started behaving in a strange manner leaving the family members in a panic.

Qutbullapur Excise Inspector Yadaiah on Monday said the samples of toddy were collected from the shop in Ramreddinagar in the presence of police for chemical analysis. “We can ascertain whether the couple consumed adulterated toddy only after getting the report,” he said.

After the Kukatpally adulterated toddy incident, which claimed the lives of seven people, the Prohibition and Excise department seized three toddy shops at Hydernagar, Shamshiguda and SP Nagar and took up further investigation.

In a statement released on Monday, the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) informed that a total of 36 patients were admitted in NIMS till date, following the consumption of toddy. Of them, 23 patients were currently undergoing treatment. All necessary medical care was being provided.

Thirteen patients were discharged in the last three days and seven patients, who were clinically stable, were discharged today. The situation is being closely monitored by the expert multispecialty team, according to the medical superintendent.
