Hyderabad: Hyderabad remained hot and humid through Monday, as the monsoon continued to lose steam across Telangana. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast only isolated light to moderate rainfall until July 16, leaving the city residents to brace for more heat and haze.
Forecast maps show limited rainfall activity across the state in the first half of the week, with only a few districts in the west and south likely to receive brief showers. Hyderabad, too, may get occasional light drizzle or gusty winds, but nothing that would offer lasting relief. Maximum temperatures are expected to hover around 33 to 34 degrees Celsius, while mornings could remain misty. Surface winds from the southwest may reach up to 10 kmph.
A shift is expected later in the week. From July 17, the IMD has warned of widespread rainfall across south, east, and central Telangana, including Hyderabad. Intense thunderstorms and heavy downpours have been predicted between July 17 and 22.
Areas such as Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Bhadradri Kothagudem, and Khammam are expected to be among the most affected. Districts in the northern and eastern parts of the state could see consistent rainfall from July 23 to 28 due to consecutive low-pressure systems, though Hyderabad is also likely to experience moderate to heavy showers during this period.
Daily yellow alerts have been issued until July 18 across all districts, cautioning against lightning and strong surface winds reaching up to 40 kmph. While widespread rain is forecast soon, the exact onset remains subject to developing systems across eastern India. The IMD has mentioned a low-pressure area forming over Gangetic West Bengal and Bangladesh, which could strengthen over the coming days.
Rainfall so far has remained patchy. On Monday, Hyderabad recorded zero precipitation, with minimum and maximum temperatures settling at 24°C and 33.5°C respectively. Surface winds remained light, and skies stayed hazy.
