Next-gen Mitsubishi Pajero caught testing

Mitsubishi could build the new Pajero on a ladder frame chassis.

The Mitsubishi Pajero has been one of the most iconic nameplates globally. It was also called the Montero or Shogun in some markets. While the carmaker retired the Pajero four years ago in 2021, a new prototype caught testing suggests that a new generation Pajero is in the works.

Not much is known at this point, but Mitsubishi could build the new Pajero on a ladder frame chassis. It could share its underpinnings with the Triton / L200 pickup truck. Other rumours suggest that the new SUV could use a monocoque construction, sharing the same platform as the Outlander SUV.

The Triton / L200 is powered by petrol and diesel engines so they could make their way into the new Pajero as well. Electrification is also said to be in the works for the new SUV.

Coming back to the test mule, it appears to have a boxy silhouette with a large front grille and slim LED headlamps. The rear design looks similar to that of the Nissan Patrol.

Mitsubishi could reveal the new Pajero in the coming months.
