‘Z’ Launches A First-Of-Its-Kind Search To Discover India’s Next Generation Of Screenwriters Through Zee WRITERS ROOM

Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (‘Z’), leading content and technology powerhouse, proudly announces the launch of Zee WRITERS ROOM – a landmark initiative aimed at identifying and nurturing young, emerging screenwriting talent across the country. Zee WRITERS ROOM is more than just a talent hunt—it is a creative movement aligned with the Company’s brand philosophy, ‘Yours Truly, Z’ with an aim to enhance its content offering across platforms. At a time when fresh perspectives are in high demand, the initiative aspires to bridge the gap between raw storytelling potential and the professional world of screenwriting, offering selected writers the opportunity to craft stories across ‘Z’s extensive TV, Digital, and film platforms.

Spearheaded by ‘Z’s central content and regional teams, the initiative is designed to connect untapped talent with the evolving needs of India’s entertainment landscape. The initiative of Zee WRITERS ROOM was announced with an exciting and engaging brand film in seven Indian languages championing a singular vision of “opening the doorway of opportunities to the writers of tomorrow – STORIES. SCRIPTS. SCREENS.”

Rolling out across 80 cities and 32 event centres, the campaign is being amplified by a high-impact promotional blitz spanning on-air, digital, and on-ground platforms. The initiative targets promising storytellers in Hindi, Marathi, Bangla, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam, offering them an unprecedented opportunity to enter a collaborative writers’ room that nurtures imagination, structure, and narrative craft.

Speaking about the initiative, Raghavendra Hunsur, Chief Creative Officer, Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd., said, “As one of India’s largest storytellers, it’s not just our opportunity but our duty to nurture the next wave of writing talent. At Zee, we believe our biggest strength isn’t just the stories we tell, but the storytellers we discover and nurture. With Zee WRITERS ROOM, we’re creating a space where raw voices, unheard ideas, and honest emotions find shape. This isn’t a contest – it’s a commitment. To give writers from every part of India the tools, mentorship, and belief to build something timeless across screens, across regions, across genres — our job is to empower creators, give them the craft, the courage, and the chance. Because the future of storytelling is not just what we make – it’s also who we make it with.”

Kartik Mahadev, Chief Marketing Officer, ZEEL, added “With Zee WRITERS ROOM, we’re taking our brand promise a step further—by focusing on enhancing the craft of storytelling and building a community of writers who can help us tell differentiated and diverse of stories. We’re creating a space that opens doors for passionate writers to become tomorrow’s storytellers.”

Samrat Ghosh, Chief Cluster Officer – East, North, Premium Cluster, Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd., added, “Bengal has always been a hub of literary and cinematic brilliance. With Zee WRITERS ROOM, we are setting up a new-age platform for emerging Bengali storytellers to find their voice and create narratives that reflect both legacy and contemporary sensibilities.”

Siju Prabhakaran, Chief Cluster Officer – South & West Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd., said, “The South and West regions are home to some of the most vibrant storytelling cultures in the country. Zee WRITERS ROOM will help channel that passion and creativity into professionally structured content that can thrive across TV, OTT and film.”

Curated for writers who already possess a creative spark—whether self-taught or formally trained— Zee WRITERS ROOM welcomes talent that may have shown promise in college festivals, writing clubs, or digital platforms but haven’t yet made inroads into the industry. This initiative is not designed to teach the basics of writing, but to refine and elevate promising talent into professionally ready screenwriters.
