Leopard scare creates panic in Telangana, traps set

HYDERABAD: A leopard on the prowl in Mahabubnagar has triggered concern among locals, prompting authorities to launch a full-scale operation to track and trap the big cat. The animal has reportedly been roaming for nearly two weeks, especially in Veerannapeta and Gurramgutta areas.District Collector Viziendira Boyi, along with forest officials, police, and municipal staff, visited the affected areas on Tuesday. A cage has been installed in Gurramgutta to capture the leopard, while CCTV cameras and drones have been deployed to monitor its movement. Night vision cameras are also in use, and additional police forces have been stationed to ensure public safety.Officials have issued a set of precautionary guidelines to residents. “If you encounter the leopard, don’t run. Raise your hands, step back slowly,” officials advised “It has not harmed anyone so far,” said collector Boyi.
