Breaking boundaries: First-of-its-kind drag theatre to spark dialogue in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Drag Me Not, an original Theatre of the Oppressed production, featuring an all-queer cast, will take center stage at Yogibear Collective, a cultural association in Hyderabad, on July 20 from 5.30 pm to 8 pm.

Blending drag, street theatre (Nukkad Natak), and real-life queer narratives, this unique performance aims to challenge social norms, confront discrimination, and spark dialogue through interactive and participatory theatre, a press release said.

Organised by DragVanti in association with Mobbera Foundation, with support from Rubaroo, and sponsorship by Dandy, the play coincides with World Drag Day and offers an unfiltered lens into the lived experiences of queer individuals.

This will be the first-ever performance of its kind in Hyderabad, where queer drag artists step into roles not just as entertainers but as change-makers — reclaiming public space, inviting collective reflection, and turning pain into power, said Patruni Chidananda Sastry, founder of DragVanti and Expressionist Dancer and Tranimal Drag Artist.

Entry is free, but RSVP is required. The press release included the RSVP link.
