HYDERABAD: A major fire broke out at an industrial unit in Balanagar, at around 3.30 am on Thursday. However, no casualties were reported.
According to Kukatpally SFO T. Jagan Mohan, the unit deals with the manufacturing of paper and steel plates. The fire is suspected to have erupted due to a short circuit, he said.
The fire station received a distress call from one of the workers present at the unit when the incident occurred.
Thick smoke had engulfed the unit. Due to the intensity of the fire, five fire engines reached the spot and doused the flames after nearly five hours of rigorous effort.
A property loss worth Rs 5 crore is estimated. Further investigation into the incident is underway.
