BHPian 2TR-FE recently shared this with other enthusiasts: Hi Team, I’ll be flying tonight and have a 10-hour layover in Mumbai tomorrow. With some time on hand, I’ve planned a visit to my friend’s place near Churchgate. I checked Uber, but the fare seems unusually high at around 1,200 for a one-way trip. I’m now considering whether renting a self-drive car for about 7 hours might be a more economical and flexible option, as it would also give us the freedom to explore the city a bit. This will be my first visit to Mumbai. While I’m confident in my driving skills, I do have some concerns about safety and the possibility of scams. To make things trickier, I just found out that I’ll need to collect my checked-in baggage (3 suitcases) from T2 and carry it to T1 for recheck-in. Since it’s a long layover, the check-in counters won’t be open yet, so I’ll have to keep the luggage with me the entire time. There are baggage storage facilities available, but the cost of storing three suitcases comes close to what I’d pay for a day’s self-drive car rental. Awaiting guidance from Mumbaikars Here’s whatBHPian RM_Motorsportshad to say on the matter:Check out Uber rental. You can rent as per hours required. Traffic and parking is horrible these days in Mumbai because of rains too. Its drivers headache to navigate traffic and find parking, you just guide him where ever you want to visit in the city. Here’s whatBHPian Maverick5490had to say on the matter:10 hours is too less time, lot of time will be spent in traffic and looking for parking, plus the additional time between terminals. Renting a self-drive will not make sense, check for all day uber rental (8 hours) or better to call your friend over to the Airport. Here’s whatBHPian Axe77had to say on the matter:Given the short time and the vagaries of Mumbai traffic and parking, I would say avoid self drive. Given the uber strike, there is also too much uncertainty around uber and cabs too given the added pressure on plying cabs with the reduced supply thanks to uber / ola strike. Your best bet would be either to stay put at the airport or see if your friend is open to coming to the airport to you, taking you around the Northern suburbs (bandra etc) for a few hours and then dropping you back to the airport. You can hopefully keep your luggage in his car. Alternately, its expensive, but just book a reliable car with these private agencies that will take you around the whole day and swallow the expense consequence.Read BHPian comments for more insights and information.
