Justice AK Singh Sworn In As CJ Of Telangana High Court

Hyderabad: Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh took the oath of office as the Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court on Saturday. He was administered the oath by Governor Jishnu Dev Varma during a formal ceremony at Raj Bhavan. The event was attended by a host of dignitaries, including Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Cabinet ministers, judges of the High Court and other prominent figures.

The appointment of Justice Singh, who was transferred from the Tripura High Court, follows a recommendation by the Supreme Court Collegium on May 28, which was later approved by the Union government. He replaced Justice Sujoy Paul, who was transferred to the Calcutta High Court.

Justice Singh, who assumed office as the Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court on April 17, 2023, brings a wealth of judicial experience to his new role. His career has seen him serve in multiple key positions, including as the Acting Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court in 2022.

Born on July 7, 1965, in a family with a distinguished judicial legacy — his maternal great-grandfather, B.P. Sinha, served as the sixth Chief Justice of India — Justice Singh is a graduate of the University of Delhi, holding both a BA (Hons.) and LLB degree. He began his legal career in 1990, practising as an advocate at the Patna High Court before continuing his work at the newly established Jharkhand High Court in 2001.

Justice Singh’s elevation to the Bench began with his appointment as an Additional Judge of the Jharkhand High Court on January 24, 2012, followed by his confirmation as a permanent judge in 2014. In April 2021, he was appointed as the Executive Chairman of the Jharkhand State Legal Services Authority.
