HYDERABAD: The death toll in the adulterated toddy case rose to eight after a 42-year-old woman succumbed to kidney failure at OGH. The deceased patient was identifed as D Sunitha.Meanwhile, 14 patients are still undergoing treatment at the NIMS and Gandhi hospital. Among them, the health condition of three patients, two at Gandhi and one at NIMS, remains critical. According to doctors, the patients are being administered peritoneal dialysis and CRRT dialysis, respectively. The health condition of the rest of the patients is said to be stable, with some undergoing HD dialysis.Dr Rakesh Sahay, OGH superintendent, said that Sunitha, a resident of Kukatpally, consumed toddy at a compound on July 5. “After reaching her native village in Nagarkurnool, she fell ill. She complained of vomiting and diarrhoea and was initially treated at the govt hospital, Nagarkurnool, and later shifted to Osmania General Hospital on Tuesday.”Two other patients, a mother-daughter duo from Rangareddy, who were initially suspected to be victims of adulterated toddy, were also admitted to OGH. Doctors clarified that the woman, addicted to toddy, had not consumed it for a long time and developed withdrawal symptoms, including extreme aggression and accidentally consumed super vasmol liquid. She was rushed to the hospital on Thursday. Her health condition is now stable.
