An Indian-origin doctor in the United States, Ritesh Kalra, has been accused of serious crimes including medical fraud and sexual abuse. He is currently under house arrest after a court order in New Jersey.
Between 2019 and 2025, Dr. Kalra reportedly issued over 31,000 prescriptions for a powerful and addictive painkiller called oxycodone. Authorities say he gave these prescriptions without any proper medical reason and often without even meeting the patients. This misuse of his medical license has raised major concerns about public safety and ethics.
One of the most disturbing parts of the case is that he allegedly demanded sexual favors from female patients in exchange for writing prescriptions. A jail inmate also claimed she received opioids from Dr. Kalra without any consultation or communication.
Following these allegations, his medical license has been suspended, and the clinic he was operating has been shut down. He has also been barred from prescribing or using any medication while the case continues.
Many people have reacted strongly to the incident, saying that doctors are supposed to care for patients, not take advantage of them. The case has shocked both the American and Indian communities, and many are calling for strict action to ensure justice is served and patient trust is protected.
